Carved angel by Earnest Patton (1935 -    ) of Campton, Kentucky.  He is known for his carved and painted figures in the style of Edgar Tolson, who was a neighbor.  With the usual appearance of the “Campton School” carvers, the face of the angel is elongated with painted eyes and wings.  Detail of hair and wings is quite fine, with Earnest using a carving knife for details and painting the finished figures with household paints.  Wood: probably linwood, which was a favorite wood for carving, says Patton.  This piece probably dates from the 1980’s.
